Bob’s Simplistic Navigation
A WordPress Plugin
Have you picked a WordPress theme that you really like, but it came with no Navigation Links to move forwards and backwards between posts? Does your theme have Navigation Links located at the top, but you also wanted the option of locating it a couple other places? Well than I have coded the answer for you! With this plugin you can easily add Forward and Backward Navigation Links to your WordPress Theme. You have the option of adding the links to the top, the middle, the bottom, or any mixture of the 3 (including all 3 places).

Installation:
- Unzip the compressed file and then drop the bobsnav folder into your /wp-content/plugins/ directory with all contents

I just realized that the most up to date style sheet was not in the compressed files. I have updated the files to include the newest style sheet. If you downloaded this plugin prior to now, you may want to redownload it now. The previous style sheet will show an arrow background even when there is no link.
hello bobby,
i always fascinated by wordpress’s theme of which being used by huge people out there …
i’m just wondering if you have the solution for me here … as usual, i started with google’s blogger but since then i’m thinking of getting some nice themes from wordpress …
i can googled for instruction on how to migrate from google to wordpress but not the other way round … i still wish to stick with google’s blogger for the simple reason that my site has been indexed and assigned page-rank by google … so it’ll back to zero if i migrate from blogger to wordpress …
how can i use wordpress’s theme bu remains under blogger’s platform? in another words, is there a way for me to use wordpress’s template but remains with blogspot’s domain?
appreciate if you can help …
cheers

Hello StockTube,
Thanks for stopping by. Since WordPress themes are specifically coded with WordPress functions, I do not believe it is possible to use those themes elsewhere. If you know how to code html & css…perhaps you could work out a way to duplicate one using your choice of blogging tools.
I have never used google blogger before, so I’m afraid I am probably not the best resource out there for it.
Good points on getting noticeed, and actually communicating. Reminds me of a friend of mine … a better known blogger … who wanted to hire an assistant for is “brick and mortar” buisness. He put out a post on his blog describing the job. Got a couple hundred responses … about 4 even used his name … and one, a whole one … mentioned the skills set he was looking for. (and yes, that one got hired)
Well all hate those “Current Occupant” junk mailers that clog our “snail mail” box … why clutter up a fellow “webinaut’s” email box with the same drivel?

[…] I requested my plugin to be added to the Wordpress Repository back in April when I created it. I heard back yesterday that this request was approved. Upon hearing that I uploaded my plugin to the official repository and now “Bob’s Simplistic Navigation” is available straight out of Wordpress Repository! I am hoping that this will very likely up its exposure and usage. Its so great that such a simple plugin can be so useful to many people. “Bob’s Simplistic Navigation” the plugin has a home here located at: http://blog.reformatthis.com/plugins/bobsnav […]

I would like to modify your plugin to
1)replace the post names with the text next and previous
2) change the font to a bigger and bolder and blacker font
Thank you for the recommendations. I will definitely keep them in mind for future version.
Trying to download your plugin and all I get is a corrupted zip file? Is this going to be fixed?
Perhaps you are having troubles with your zip compression utility? I just went to the wordpress website and downloaded it with no issue.
What utility are you using?
Hey Matthis,
thanks for your great Plugin. Keep this work going on.
Very nice this blog =)
But it is being very stubborn!
Bottom-line is this: I upload the folder to my plugins directory; activate the plugin in my blog’s admin>>>plugin area… and then publish four or five short "test posts" to see what the nav links look like.
But guess what???
The LINKS are there - right where I want them to be (below where "Comments" would normally go)… but there are two problems:
1) The "Previous" and "Next" links are almost ‘touching’ each other!!!
2) The cute little "blue arrow" icons are NOWHERE TO BE SEEN!!! (NB: I see them "plain as day" in the folder I uploaded to the blog… but the just WILL NOT come crawling out of their .png files and show everyone their colors!!!).
I tried mucking around with a few different CHMOD settings… I tried uploading the same plugin to a couple other blogs of mine (all Wordpress, of course); I deleted the download files and redownloaded the zipped folder again, then went through the entire process again…and again…and again…
But I just cannot get the blue arrow icons to show their faces…and I have an issue with the two Nav links being so close to each other they’re nearly holding hands!
Go check out my test blog at: http://www.compasspropertyinvestments.com/blog and you’ll immediately see what I mean.
Please PLEASE also feel free to email me personally at: smeatz@ihug.co.nz if you have a fair idea what may be causing these issues.
Thanking you all in advance
Bruce Smeaton
It is because the style sheet is failing to import.
Using WordPress standard structure and your settings, it is trying to import the stylesheet from:
http://www.compasspropertyinvestments.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/bobsnav/style.css
But that address fails to load the style sheet for this plugin. Do you have anything enabled or any weird structure that would cause that to fail?
Hey Bobs, were you able to figure this out for Bruce? Cuz I’m having the same problem on my (new) blog.
Hey Kelly, this "IS" Bruce! Regarding the failure of the plugin to work properly for me (initially), Bob did suggest a possible cause for this (see his response above)… but in the end my web designer (who is a total geek when it comes playing around with Style Sheets, code, scripts etc… managed to resolve the issue for me. If you get stuck, let me know and I will ask him how he did it then get back to you:)
Cheers,
Bruce Smeaton (New Zealand)
Hey Bruce!
I wanna thank you for your offer to help. After taking a closer look at the style sheet, I was able to figure out the problem:
It was trying to get the style sheet info from
?>/wp-content/plugins/bobsnav/style.css"
instead of
?>/wp-content/plugins/bobs-simplistic-navigation/style.css"
Cheers!! Kel =)
Hey Kelly,
Yes, as Bruce just said there, his error came down to the wordpress standard variable path not being honored and causing the stylesheet to fail. Sorry, I have been very out of it for a long time…. What is your new blog, I can check it out and see if the issue is the same on yours.
Hey did you get my email with the link? New blog is not fully ready yet but I sent you a test link to check out.
Nevermind… found the problem. Again, thanks for this great plugin! =)
I was wondering what you needed to do in order to use images OTHER than the ones included with this plug in?
I’ve managed to edit the plug in to the point where it doesn’t show the text for the link, but I can’t get the images I want to use to show at all.
Is there a size limitation? Have to use just a PNG file and nothing else?
Please help, I am 99.9 % done and this is the last little thing I need!
Hmmm… it would be a given, I think, to see the navigation in action here, or at least a demo page.
Hi,
Thanks for this great plugin.
1. I checked the third option and the links don’t appear after the comments. Is that an incompatibility with my theme or any incompatibility with a comment plugin?
Plugins I use:
midasoracle.org/about/software/
2. In my view, the two links (backward and forward) are too close from each other. There should be a wider space between the two, or maybe some arrows…
Anyway, thanks for listening,
Chris Masse
