Kontera Taking Flak

Blogging Add comments
Kontera Logo

I’ve read many blogs lately that have removed Kontera links for a various amount of reasons. Primarily the biggest reason being the links not having anything to do with the content. There are also a few blogs that say the amount of links sway readers from the content. I’m not sure if any of these bloggers gave the time they should of for Kontera to settle in.

I have to say that I was getting close to agreeing with all of these people and coming very close to removing it off of this blog. But suddenly, after being installed for a couple weeks, it starting working as you think it should. Every day that goes by, I personally think that it works better than it did the previous days. And what I really like is that lately it seems to be linking to less phrases as it hones in on what your blog is truly about.

To me blogging is about blogging and any income derived from it is an extra bonus. If the community that makes this blog possible hated those links, I would do something about it. But there has not really been any kontera-link-hater comments. I even changed the color of my kontera links to try to improve the reading experience.

I think in order for Kontera to be successful on your site, you need to be patient. What do you guys think about the Kontera Link issue?

*Update - 2007-06-06
In the end, really, Kontera served no purpose on my site. Not really profitable and my blog is not about profit anyway. So like many others, I have removed it. I just found the chosen links to be annoying and not related to the content. I gave it the time, and in the end, not happy with it. Goodbye Kontera…

Patience is indeed a virtue that can prove to be very beneficial. The only negativity about Kontera that I have heard is from one individual who does not like ballon like ads. Just one opinion.

I really don’t mind them. Mouse off to the side and you never notice them at all.

And I’ve also noticed it’s been putting ads on less and less words.

I have to admit that I have considered removing them… actually I did remove them for a couple of days. They have been running for over a month on my blog and most of the time the ads are not relevant. In fact, it’s gotten so bad that my CTR has fallen to 0.61% and my ECPM has fallen to $0.26.

I’ll give them another week or two but at this point the distraction of the ads isn’t worth the pennies that I make from them.

I’ve only made $10 since installing it, with 17,364 impressions and 165 clicks - that’s only 0.95% CTR!

I’ll leave it installed for now - patience, patience, patience!

I haven’t installed it yet, but have been thinking about it.

I’ve read a few articles for, and some against. But, I think I’ll give it a go for myself. I’ve also read that it depends on your blog’s content, so I suppose we may all have different experiences using it.

I have it installed on my blog and seem to get the right ads. No problems with it so far. And CTR and CPM on kontera seems to be as good as on adsense or a bit better. Shocking! :)

I used to have Kontera up on Dosh Dosh but took it off because I wasn’t earning enough to justify having them up. I’m sure it has been an irritant for the readers: some have emailed me about it.

Their targeting is still poor to me. For example, I hovered over the text “Your Blog” in your post and out popped an ad for MEADOWLANDS, presumably a TV series. :)

Just one quick point for everyone who is reading this. You can decide how many content links show up within a single post and even determine the approximate number of words between them. You’ll just need to send Kontera Support an email request. They’ll usually get back to you pretty quick. ^-^

I gave it another 3 weeks but I finally gave up. For the month, my CTR had fallen to 0.35% and my ECPM was a pitiful $0.19.
