I teach English in Japan, and one of my students, an elementary school kid, told me his dad bought him a dog last week. I asked him what its name was and he said its name was “Poo”.

The next day, I was teaching his dad and he told me he had bought his son a dog called “Poo”. I explained what poo was in English and he cracked up laughing, very red faced. He then asked about Winnie the Pooh, who in Japan is known only as Pooh, not Winnie. I explained (whether true or not) that the bear’s name is Winnie, but he smells of poo, hence the name. All the students were in tears of laughter at this point.

Then I told them how funny it was that Disney bought poo from England, then sold poo to Japan, and now you can by poo everywhere, because it’s really popular. Japanese people love poo! Squeezing it, playing with it, wearing it, and even naming their pets after it!
