My Ol’ 65 Mustang – I miss it so

My 1965 Mustang

Saman just blogged about how he saw one of the new 2008 Dodge Chargers at the Atlanta Auto Show. I commented about how I really like how car makers are starting to go back to their “roots” and start designing cars from a classic perspective. The Ford Mustang really did this on its 40th birthday in 2005. They tried to go back to its classic design, of course Dodge followed up doing the same thing with their Charger.

So anyway, Saman’s post got me thinking about my ol’ 65 Mustang. I had to sell it before getting married to help pay off some debt, but I do miss it sometimes. It was somewhat of a money pit, but it was so great to own one of my dream cars for a short period of time. It was coded and title a 65 Mustang, but it did have a lot of parts from 64 1/2 models as well. 1965 was the first year of the Mustang, but you know how they bring out cars around a half year early? All the 1965 Mustangs sold in 1964 are considered 64 1/2 models. Just some random trivia for ya ;) .

I swear, these days it seems like they bring out the next years model 2 years early!

Here are some pics of my ol’ Mustang ["Good Ol' Blue"]:

Good’ole Blue  She may have been a “Money Pit”, but who’s to say that you had to finish her right away?! I would love a project car – just imagine working on it for 10-20 years, with your girls, and imagine the feeling when you take that first spin in your completed car with your babies by your side!

I have to get one!!

Usually I am not a fan of the older Mustangs but this one looks sweet! I love the hood scoop and the hood pins. The blue with white stripes reminds me of a Viper, which is just wonderful!

Did you ever get a chance to run it at a drag strip?

Hahaha – I wish. The thing had a lawn mower engine in it. It did not have the original engine, and whoever’s project car it was before it was mine decided to put in a Maverick 120 Horsepower engine. So it was really missing the Mustang Muscle!

It was a low priced (originally) project car for me that I only got to spend a couple years and good amount of money on. The last guy had freaking welded the tire onto the axle! All kinds of crappy fixes like that I had to undo.

A man getting married has to put behind the boy toys. Until they get older and can afford them all again that is ;)
